Oral Conscious Sedation
Moderate sedation involves taking medication approximately one hour before your procedure. The medication typically takes about 30 minutes to take effect, though the exact timing can vary based on several factors. Once it does, you will feel drowsy and relaxed.
Sedation Dentistry Options for Full Mouth Dental Implants
Commonly known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is a form of minimal sedation that is inhaled. A mask is placed over your nose, and you breathe in a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen, which helps you relax.
IV Sedation
Instead of a pill, this moderate sedative is administered directly into your bloodstream through a needle. The medication takes effect within seconds, making you feel drowsy and relaxed.
General anesthesia
Light sedation that is taken by mouth to help you to relax without a mask on your face.

Our Smile Transformation Timeline
The following timeline is what to expect on the day of your full-mouth procedure. This example includes estimated times for a procedure that involves a single arch. The timeline may be extended by 90 minutes if you receive a bridge for both arches. It may also be reduced by 90 minutes for patients already wearing a complete denture. 7:15 AM
Since your procedure will likely begin early, be sure to get a good night’s sleep beforehand. Dr. Palani will review the procedure with you one final time and explain what to expect afterward.

8:00 AM
You’ll be taken to our sedation room, where medication will help you relax into a deep sleep state. Your vital signs will be closely monitored throughout the procedure for your safety.

10:30 AM
Once the implants are placed, Dr. Palani will complete the surgical phase by cleaning the sites and suturing the incisions. Around 10:30 AM, general anesthesia will be stopped, and we will allow the sedation to wear off.

10:30 AM - 1:00 PM
You will rest while your temporary restoration is made in our in-house lab. You will wear it for several months as your implants heal and fuse with the jawbone, preparing for your final restoration.

1:00 PM
The process is typically completed around 1:00 PM, when your temporary restoration is placed and you see your new smile for the first time. We will then review your aftercare and follow-up instructions.

After the procedure, it is normal to experience some swelling, tenderness, and mild to moderate discomfort for the first few days, which can typically be managed with prescribed pain medication and anti-inflammatory drugs. Many patients describe the recovery as less painful than they expected and compare it to the soreness felt after a tooth extraction.

The surgical appointment for placing a full arch of implants typically takes a few hours, depending on the complexity of the case and whether any preparatory procedures such as extractions are needed at the same time.
In many cases, a temporary set of teeth can be attached to the implants on the same day, so you leave the office with a functional smile. The complete treatment timeline, however, extends beyond the initial surgery. After placement, the implants need time to fuse with the jawbone through a process called osseointegration, which generally takes three to six months.
Once the implants have fully integrated, your permanent custom prosthesis is fabricated and secured. From start to finish, the full process usually spans four to eight months, though every patient’s timeline varies.
